Waiting
On My Daddy
Droplets
trickled down my shoe like silver snakes
I
waited on my daddy
Gallons
of sky water pummeled off the plastic carport
Like
great African elephants trudging across the desert
~I
thought~
As I
waited on my daddy
Cinnamon
toast on my knee on a plate
Steaming
hot and deliciously sweet
Warm
golden butter oozed and dribbled down my chin
I
love cinnamon toast
~I
thought~
As I
waited on my daddy
I
could stay out here forever
On
this small wooden chair
As
happy as Larry
Waiting
on my daddy
Wrapped
up tight in my spongy orange jacket
Listening
to the elephants
Watching
the snakes slither through the cloudy red stones
And disappear
like magic
~I
thought~
As I waited on my daddy
They
were my friends and I was happy
Knowing
that the first thing he would see
When
he came home for tea
Would
be me.
